Halifax Regional Police say a 20-year-old woman has died after being hit by a train in Bedford.

Police say they don’t suspect foul play but that the woman’s identity will not be released.

According to a press release, the report of the collision was first received around 9:18 a.m. on Thursday.

“It’s devastating. I feel sorry for the family,” said Richard Sanderson who works near the site of the crash. “There’s never been an accident here as far as I know.”

The train was travelling towards Halifax when it hit a woman on the track near the 270 block of Rocky Lake Drive.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“[The trains] never blow a whistle. I don’t think there’s any need to because there shouldn’t be any people on the track, right?” said Sanderson “It’s strange, it really is. If I can hear it sitting at my desk and that’s before it gets up to here, anybody who’s on that track would have known. You could feel it.”

Police are at the location as are officials from CN Police.

Const. Dianne Penfound told that police hadn’t yet been able to identify the woman.

Penfound says the tracks were accessible at a nearby dead-end street.

Halifax Regional Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact police at 902-490-5016. Tips can be sent anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), at crimestoppers.ns苏州美甲学校 or by texting Tip 202+ your message to 274637.
